Hobbyist bladesmith and maker of cool things!
My website: www.tyrellknifeworks.com
I'm a part-time bladesmith living in California. I got into this craft from watching Forged in Fire with my son and thought it would be a cool thing to do together. I am a Journeyman Smith in the American Bladesmith Society, which defines a level of quality that the bladesmith must meet. I am thrilled to have attained this and now I'm working towards the Master level.
Every project has something new in it so that I can keep learning new techniques. This hobby has become a passion and I'd love for you to follow along!
PS - The shark logo was used because I'm also a PADI scuba diving instructor. I've also done cage diving with great white sharks and have been in the water with many other sharks!
Thanks,
Denis Tyrell

Bonjour merci beaucoup pour vos vidéos. C'est très compliqué d'obtenir de l'assurance même avec vos formidables vidéos. Je viens de recevoir mon magnifique Backstand des cher 3F fabrication. Does the copper make the sword weaker?
Thank you, for theory
I honestly thought black beard would win, that thing was a work of art.
Nothing done to compensate for the carbon loss in the process.
Any decarb is ground off the blade. Every blade is checked with a hardness tester so the exact hardness is known, but thanks for your concern.
Excellent.
Thanks for taking a look!
Usually i dont like Damascus but this is insanely beautiful i love how much contrast there is
Thanks for checking it out!
this absolutly next level swordsmith 🗡️
Thanks for checking it out!
You say some people want to bite it, I want to squeeze it like playdoh
If i would just see a picture of it, i would never believe the sword is handmade! Man, this is stunning and it was beyond my imagination of possible craftmanship. Congratulations!
Thank you very much! I appreciate you taking a look
How crazy it is that today I was randomly wondering how you would do the Damascus imaging and then this drops lol
Well there you have it! 😜
I really wish I had the space and equipment to eventually build something like this, kitchen knife sized at least. Even living in Japan and loving the culture, I have little desire to own a katana haha. I'll be browsing your site to see how much something like this sells for
Those katanas are custom orders and range from $7k-$9k+. I have other knives on my site though. Thanks for watching.
Ah yes the werewolf slayer katana 🧐
You never know when you’ll need one! 😜
This looks cool but way over my head. I can't even spell damnasskiss more or less use a computer to help me make it 😂
Well if we get you a dictionary and a keyboard you’re all set! 🤣👍
Thanks for the demo of my site and glad to hear you find it useful.
Thanks for making it, Matt! ❤️
Thanks for sharing this Denis! Fantastic tool and looks easy to use. 👊🏻
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for checking it out.
I’m very excited to use this. I’ve hand drawn a lot of my patterns. This will save a lot of time on designing and developing a new project.
Wonderful! Thanks for tuning in.
Beatiful katana
Thanks for taking a look!
Such a great artist just stunning ! but come on man dont do that for watermillion ! no for wasting food please
That was “scrap” expired food I got from the local grocery. Thanks for watching.
@@TyrellKnifeworks I appricate your explaining 🌹
I have not started blade smithing myself, but what a wonderful tool! I love these kind of tools, and it really helps show what kind of amazing designs one can get from different stacks. Thank you for sharing it!
It’s really fun to play with and come up with new ideas! 👍. Thanks for watching.
Now you can make a Damascus pattern that looks like your Shark logo 😉
I’ve already done that in several ways. 😉. I’ve done 3D printed Damascus of a shark and also done “scales” for the Fantasy Challenge. 👍. Thanks for watching.
16A three phase.
I don't quite understand your comment.
@@TyrellKnifeworks I just commenteded as a courtesy, to the good content.
How much amps does that press cunsume, or Watts.
@@user-rw5cx1uh4i It depends on the motor used. This is a 5hp motor running on 220v. I think it's around 16A or there abouts.
that's amazing
I was very impressed with it! Thanks for watching.
I love your channel. I have several things made thanks to your instructions. I am in the process of building a gas furnace for the forge, next is a hydraulic press. I even already have an identical hydraulic cylinder. For now I am making monolithic knives, but really want to start forging 😁 And the simulator is just great. Super that someone came up with such an idea 😎🤌 Greetings Ps. I am your biggest fan in Poland ✌️😁
Thanks so much for following the channel! Good luck with the press. ❤️
Thank You ✌️😎
Very cool and I will also be using it
It’s a very handy tool! Thanks for watching.
Very cool application, what a great tool.
It really is! Thanks for taking a look
So nice! Beautiful work.
Thank you! Cheers!
That is a great tool for knife makers, thanks for showing it
I was surprised by its features. Quite good! Thanks for watching
looks very much like the Old "Thor2" that you can download as an exe file. But it looks like he has take it a step further. super sweet :)
Yeah, he mentioned he took inspiration from that app. This one has way more features though. Thanks for looking.
great piece but it isnt a katana its has no curve in it a katana is known for having curves
The sori (curve) in this katana is 1.25” which is exactly inline with a katana of its length. Thanks for watching.
This sword exactly look like the black blade of ryuma from one piece Salute to ur hard work 🫡🫡
I’ve never seen the show, but thanks for taking a look at this build.
In modern history "Vikings" are first mentioned in 16. century by...Vatican sources. Until then the whole cultural world knew them as pirates in employ of northern kings. So in the end, it's just a bunch of warmongering propaganda. EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED!
They aren’t my favorite weapons stylistically, but this one was a fun build. Thanks for watching
@@TyrellKnifeworks Dam dude...sorry for what seams to be a meanspirited comment, I really don't want to disparage neither your skill or artistic gift-it's why I watch, but it's TRUE.
@@nebojsanesic5326 No worries, I didn't take it that way.
Excelente..
Obrigado por dar uma olhada.
Well done Sir! that took WORK!
That gold is amazing. Came over from your Silver sword vid. Yeah. I really like your finished art.
Thanks for watching, William!
What a beautiful peace. Someone is going to have a nice addition to their collection.
Thanks for checking it out, William!
Is the performance on hardened steel substantially different than the (unhardened) 80CRV2?
Performance is the same. I’ve actually seen no difference on hardened steel. I use this laser for all my makers marks now.
かっけぇ
見てくれてありがとう!
That is quite an amazing build. You are very skilled at all the steps in knife making. I would also throw in you seem to be a good teacher. As a per who also loves all tools, is there a tool that you don’t have? Lol😂 great video please keep them coming!
The only major tool I don’t have is a power hammer. I live in a neighborhood so the noise of a power hammer isn’t possible. Thanks for watching!
Damn that Patreon, hes probably a successful Angel investor full time. I cant believe im saying this but he spent 5500 $ and still got an amazing one of a kind knife.
Dave got a pretty good deal I’d say. That knife is probably worth $10k-12k! Thanks for checking it out!
I understand that Japanese get the curve in the blade by quenching. Is that possible here? If not, why not?
This was a conscious decision. I explained it in the pinned comment. Basically Damascus etches differently if it’s differentially hardened (with clay on top) and looks kind of weird with a hamon. The copper here adds some flexibility and shock absorption and the core steel provides strength. Thanks for watching.
This man is piece of art himself
Thanks for watching!
Forge a meteorite you madman!
NON?!? How many knives can you etch with one mix?
Ferric chloride can be stored and used for years. I’ve had the same batch for about 2 years at this point. Thanks for watching.
That is awesome ! May i ask what type of oil and the temp of that oil used ?
It was just mineral oil and it was room temp that was accidentally dripped into the ferric tank. Thanks for watching
Why did you spend $1000 on a 3x6x1/8 Sterling Silver plate? A plate of .999 Silver that size should weigh about 13.66oz and, with Silver being about $28 per ounce right now, that still comes out to less than $400. Sterling being less expensive than pure silver... that math ain't mathin.
If you read the pinned comment, I mis-spoke in the video. It was $600... and just because RAW silver is $28 per ounce, there is overhead from the supplier. I showed the receipt in the video, it was a real purchase. Thanks for watching.
That is the best Katana to be displayed I sure could not use it for any practice, with the silver in the blade, and But I would more than proud to display that on my one-sword stand.
Don't be fooled, the silver does not affect it's functionality. The entire core and cutting edge is high carbon steel. The silver is just a very thin layer, about the thickness of two pieces of paper after forging. Thanks for watching.
Nice work 🤔👍
Thank you! Cheers!
